Licensing

Read the runtime. Run it. Study it.

The Baryon engine is source-available under PolyForm Strict. You can study, run, and modify the sound-to-space runtime for personal and non-commercial work. Commercial distribution starts under a separate agreement.

Path /licensing
  1. Personal study, private use, and non-commercial modification of the engine are allowed.
  2. Distribution, hosted services, and OEM embedding built on the engine require a commercial license.
  3. The desktop application is a separate commercial product.

Engine license

The Baryon engine — the sound-to-space runtime, shared render packages, and public web app — is source-available under PolyForm Strict License 1.0.0.

This license is intended for personal, educational, research, and other non-commercial use cases where you want to study the runtime, modify it privately, and contribute improvements back.

What the license allows

  • Use, study, and modify the software for personal and non-commercial work
  • Run private, non-commercial deployments
  • Contribute improvements back to this repository

What the license does not allow

  • Distributing a product built on or substantially derived from the Baryon engine without a separate commercial license
  • Offering a hosted or managed service powered by the engine without a separate commercial license
  • Treating the engine license as permission to ship the desktop product itself

Desktop product

The Baryon desktop application is a separate commercial product. It is not distributed under PolyForm Strict. Product-specific purchase and license terms are presented at the point of sale.

Contributions

Baryon accepts community contributions under a Contributor License Agreement. Contributors retain copyright ownership of their work while granting the licensor the right to use those contributions under the repository’s licensing model, including commercial terms where appropriate.
